When I tried to play with Conky last time I found it buggy and unresponsive. Particularly I had problem of Conky grabbing the input and block any shortcuts.

Compiz settings:

To solve this issue you need to install compiz manager and its plugins:

$ sudo apt install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-plugins

now open compiz manager and enable window rules plugin:

and add class=Conky to No focus line:

Conky settings

Window related settings:

own_window_class = 'Conky',
own_window_argb_visual = true,
own_window_argb_value=0,
own_window_type='dock',
own_window=true,
own_window_transparent=true,
own_window_hints='undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager',

The own_window_class is the most important thing as it enables compiz to identify conky window as no-focus group.
